PhD student
The University of British Columbia
Qian Zhou is a PhD student at the School of Social Work at the University of British Columbia. She is currently a Graduate Research Assistant at the Centre for the Study of Services to Children and Families. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Shanghai University in 2020 and her Master of Social Work from Peking University in 2022.
Qian’s research interests are rooted in her practical experiences in child welfare and disability services. She interned at the China Centre for Children’s Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA), where she collaborated with UNICEF China to develop child protection and welfare services. She also worked directly with children with disabilities and their families in hospitals, community rehabilitation centers, and non-governmental organizations.
Drawing on these experiences, she developed a strong interest in the intersection of child welfare and disability. Her study on the “home-delivery education policy” critically examined the systemic exclusion of children with severe disabilities in China. This work earned her the Social Work Scholarship from the China Social Work Research Centre.
