Carolina M. Herrera, MSSW, PhD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at Wurzweiler University. She holds a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Rutgers University Newark and a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work. Her clinical practice has focused on working with adolescents struggling with severe trauma and/or substance use in both outpatient and residential settings. Her research focuses on identifying risk factors leading to adolescent mental health illness and problem behavior, and particularly explores the impact of media on youth social development and health risk development. Her work has been featured in outlets such as Children and Youth Services Review and Child Abuse & Neglect. In 2018 she was awarded the Colin Beer Distinguished Teaching Award for the development and implementation of a new psychology course at Rutgers University entitled “Representation of Race and Gender in the Media.
