Dan Ferris is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, where across his research, teaching, service, and practice, he focuses on cultivating community around policies, programs, and partnerships that advance equitable, sustainable, and healthy food systems. His research seeks opportunities for policy change to address system-level barriers and disparities. He translates research into practice with local, state, and national partners to influence policy change, and frequently designs and leads trainings and workshops for diverse audiences in policy engagement and efficacy. As the Co-Director of Policy Education and Practice at the Center for Social Development, he directs Data for Social Impact, a multiyear initiative focused on building social sector capacity and connectivity around data equity.
Dan previously led the development and implementation of a new Master's in Social Policy Program and served as the Policy and Planning Director for the Centene Center for Health Transformation at Washington University in St. Louis. He formerly led healthcare system transformation projects while at the NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research, which followed his work as a community organizer and policy and research analyst for a coalition-driven chronic-disease prevention campaign. He believes in the power of collaboration, acknowledging his positionality in relation to the skills and approaches critical for sustaining and nurturing partnerships over time.
