Myasia Raymond is a Black Trinidadian-Haitian American woman, a second-generation native of Queens, NY, whose identity is shaped by her rich heritage, middle-class upbringing, and formative experiences in inner-city schools. She is currently a second-year social work student at CUNY Lehman College. Myasia is deeply committed to dismantling the school-to-prison nexus by implementing transformative justice practices within school systems, a passion fueled by her firsthand observations of how disciplinary actions impact students.
In her role as a Transformative Justice Team Member, Myasia works with all students, including those with disabilities such as; students with IEPs, those on the autism spectrum, or those facing mental health challenges like ADHD, depression, and anxiety. She leads initiatives focused on de-escalation, crisis prevention, and mediation. With strong expertise in restorative justice, crisis intervention, and community engagement, she aspires to develop innovative systemic solutions that promote more empathetic, effective, and inclusive approaches to discipline in educational settings.
