Oreoluwa Dixon is a Black woman of Bajan-Jamaican descent, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She has had the unique experience of being immersed in both West Indian and Southern cultures, with her mother’s roots in Barbados and Jamaica and her father’s in the southern United States. Currently a second-year social work student at CUNY Lehman College, Oreoluwa is deeply committed to advancing social justice within the field of special education. She advocates for addressing the ongoing issues of disparities, disproportionalities, and other systemic challenges that affect students with disabilities, particularly those who require accommodations and support to succeed academically and in life. As a Black woman with a learning disability, Oreoluwa is able to form meaningful connections with other Black and Brown women who share similar experiences navigating the complexities of disability justice.
