Dalila John is the MSW Program Director and a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Alabama. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Illinois State University, her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan, and her Doctor of Social Work degree (DSW) from the University of St. Thomas where her work focused on examining the experiences of Black social work faculty and specifically investigating the internal and external factors related to their job satisfaction and retention. Her current research agenda focuses on the following areas: relevancy and value of the DSW degree, social skills and relationship development with Autistic children and their neurotypical peers, assessing social work educators and practitioners’ competency in neurodiversity, and building communities for online education. Dalila has over 13 years of experience teaching and leading in social work education where she has continued to prioritize diversity, social justice, relationship-building, experiential learning, and community collaboration. Dalila is also the founder of Dalila John Training and Consulting services where she helps individuals and organizations build anti-racist, diverse, equitable and inclusive communities centered on mutual empathy and respect, empowerment, and authenticity Dalila is married to her life partner, Gene, and they are parents of three children. She is also a mother of an Autistic child and is a strong advocate for neurodiversity awareness and inclusion. Outside of work and family, Dalila enjoys long runs, good books, and Indian cuisine.
