Michael C. LaSala, MSW, PhD is Dean at the School of Social Work at Simmons University. Prior to this position, Dean LaSala was on the faculty at Rutgers University where he served as Director of the DSW and MSW programs. He has won several teaching awards and is the recipient of the American Family Therapy Academy’s Distinguished Contribution to Social Justice Award. A seasoned family therapist and international speaker, his specialties are the couple and family relationships of gay men and the role of family on the sexual behaviors of gay/bisexual youth. Dean LaSala’s book: Coming Out, Coming Home (Columbia) describes the practice implications of a National Institute of Mental Health funded study of 65 gay and lesbian youth and their families. He is also the author of the newly published: Clinical Social Work with Individuals, Families, and Groups: The Healing Power of Relationships (Routledge).
