Texas Tech University
Dr. Richard Alboroto is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Texas Tech University. His research centers on improving outcomes within the child welfare system, with a particular emphasis on equity, workforce wellbeing, and the experiences of marginalized youth. His recent work explores the wellbeing and retention of caseworkers, examining how organizational culture, job demands, and systemic challenges affect their ability to provide consistent, high-quality support to vulnerable children and families.
In addition to workforce issues, Dr. Alboroto investigates how intersectional identities—particularly race/ethnicity and gender—shape the lived experiences of youth in foster care. His research highlights disparities in placement stability, access to supportive services, and long-term outcomes for youth of color and gender-diverse populations. By using both quantitative and qualitative methods, he aims to inform policy and practice changes that promote culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive approaches to care.
Dr. Alboroto’s broader goal is to strengthen the child welfare system through research that elevates the voices of underrepresented groups and addresses structural inequities. His work contributes to the development of evidence-informed strategies that enhance both the professional sustainability of social workers and the life trajectories of children in care.
