Melissa B. Littlefield, PhD is a Professor of Social Work and Co-Principal Investigator of the SHIELD Behavioral Health Training Program at Morgan State University. Her scholarship emphasizes Womanist leadership in social work, focusing on intersectionality and the sociohistorical context of African American women’s psychosocial well-being as well as emergent technologies in social work education and practice. She co-edited the 2020 book “Online and Distance Social Work Education: Current Practice, Future Trends” and her work has appeared in leading journals such as “Affilia”, “The Journal of Social Work Education” and “Journal of Black Studies”. Dr. Littlefield holds an MSW and PhD from Howard University. Her awards include the Council on Social Work Education's Feminist Scholarship Award and the 2004 Journal of Technology in Human Services’ Best Article Competition (Third Place), Dr. Littlefield was also a Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellow from 1993-1996.
