Dr. Julie Richards, Associate Professor of Social Work and Chair of the Social Work Department at SUNY Plattsburgh, combines over thirty years of practice experience across educational, health, and behavioral health settings, complemented by an MSW and a PhD in International Family and Community Studies. Her research centers on international development and social work, emphasizing intercultural and interprofessional learning to enhance global practice competencies.
Her career spans urban child welfare in New York City, medical and rural school social work in Vermont, and international community development, human rights advocacy, and direct service consultation. As an experienced field instructor and supervisor, Dr. Richards is deeply committed to bridging classroom learning with practice. She actively mentors students and collaborates with educators to strengthen field education models that integrate experiential learning, critical reflection, and competency-based assessment.
