Dr. Thyer is a Distinguished Research Professor of Social Work at Florida State University. He has been an active member of the social work academy for over 40 years, and has edited the social work journal RESEARCH ON SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE for over 35 years. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, the Society for Social Work and Research, and the American Psychological Association.. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida and in Georgia, is an approved clinical supervisor in Florida, and is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. His h-index is 59, based on his publishing over 330 articles in peer-reviewed journals, over 130 chapters in professional books, and over 35 books. His most recent is titled EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH DESIGNS IN SOCIAL WORK: THEORY AND PRACTICE (Columbia University Press, 2023). .
