Vijayan K Pillai, Ph.D., is professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, USA. He started his teaching career as a faculty member of the Dept. of Social Development at the University of Zambia, Lusaka. Prior to joining the University of Texas at Arlington, he was a faculty member in the Dept. of Sociology and Social Work at the University of North Texas, Denton. He obtained his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, MSW from Indore School of Social Work, Indore, and Post Graduate Diploma in Urban Planning from the School of Planning, CEPT University, and Ahmadabad, India. He is a demographer with research interests in adolescent fertility, women’s health and welfare issues, HIV/AIDS in Africa, women’s reproductive health in developing countries, and gender issues.
