Jeff Ciak, MSW, (pronouns: he/him), is a disabled doctoral candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work. Jeff has lived experience of psychiatric disability and 6+ years of post-MSW practice experience in community mental health which is the foundation for his research and teaching practice. His research focuses on reducing health disparities among people with psychiatric disabilities and incorporating lived experience of psychiatric disabilities into social work research and education. Jeff grounds his teaching in disability justice and transformative approaches to learning. Jeff uses his lived experience and clinical experiences to help students engage with course content and reach learning objectives.
