Dr. Yarneccia D. Dyson is the Dean of the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston. A nationally recognized, award-winning leader in social work education, she has extensive experience in academic administration, change management, and fostering inclusive excellence. Dr. Dyson has led transformative initiatives that strengthened institutional culture, expanded community partnerships, improved budget sustainability, and elevated the national visibility of her programs. She utilizes visionary and transformational leadership and scholarship with over 18 years of curriculum, accreditation, and
CSWE reaffirmation experience across various public institutional settings including Historically Black College/University (HBCU), minority serving institution (MSI), land grant & stem focused Research 1.
Dr. Dyson is an externally funded investigator and Scholar with a commitment to expanding a research infrastructure and
sponsored activities. She is dedicated to building relationships and leading with trust, integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Further, she is experienced in strategic planning and implementation efforts that align with the College and broader University
strategic priorities and operational plans through a shared governance approach with faculty input. She is also experienced
in collaboratively setting a vision and actively moving a School of Social Work forward articulating a blueprint
for excellence, success, and enhancing national prominence.
