Shelton O. Young, MSW, LCSW, is a social work practitioner and clinician with nearly a decade of experience serving children, families, and transitional-aged adults. His practice expertise spans child welfare, K-12 education, mental health counseling, and higher education program management. Shelton is skilled in providing mental health services to Black male youth impacted by HIV/AIDS and is a passionate educator who has developed culturally responsive curricula on social work practice with African American families across education, criminal legal, child welfare, and healthcare systems.
He is currently a PhD candidate and Dean’s Fellow at the Jane Addams College of Social Work (JACSW), University of Illinois Chicago, where he also supports research efforts in the JACSW Behavioral Health Workforce Center. Shelton is a proud fellow of the CSWE Minority Fellowship Program and serves on the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) Doctoral Student Committee, contributing to innovative mentoring opportunities for doctoral students. His research focuses on advancing critical sexual health equity among racial/ethnic and sexual minority male youth.
