Professor
Howard University - Washington, DC
I'm a Professor, Director of Ph.D. Program, and Chair of Research Sequence at the Howard University School of Social Work. My research focuses on how public programs and private assistance help vulnerable children meet their basic needs, health disparities experienced by racial/ethnic minorities, and multicultural social work. I have helped to obtain over $7 million grants from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Health Resources and Services Administration, Bezos Earth Foundation, and various foundations. I am currently the Principal Investigator for a study on "Improving the Health of Asthmatic Children in Public Housing," funded by the Princeton Alliance for Collaborative Research and Innovation. My work has been widely published in leading international social work, social policy, and public health journals, and I have been invited to serve on the editorial boards of several esteemed publications, as well as NIH Grant Proposal Peer Review Panels.
I am thrilled to share that our book, "Addressing Anti-Asian Racism with Social Work Advocacy and Action" (Liu & Chan, ed.), has been published by Oxford University Press! This work fills a critical gap in social work scholarship by examining the historical and current political contexts of anti-Asian racism, offering actionable solutions for social workers to engage in eradicating this issue. I am committed to advancing equity and inclusion in the social work field. As the Chair of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Social Work Association, I have been actively involved in promoting these values
