Dr. Maura Nsonwu, is a professor in the School of Social Work at North Carolina State University. She has practiced as a clinician, educator and researcher in the areas of refugee resettlement, human trafficking, health care, child welfare, and social work education for 30+ years. She recently co-authored two textbooks with Cognella “Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory and Case Studies for Social Workers and Helping Professions” and “Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory and Case Studies for Criminal Justice, Law, and Policymakers". Dr. Nsonwu is a research fellow with the Center for New North Carolinians (CNNC) at UNCG serving refugee/immigrant communities as an advocate/scholar. As a research fellow, she has collaborated closely with local resettlement agencies and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She is president of the Association of Immigration and Refugee Service Professionals (ARSP). Dr. Nsonwu specializes in qualitative research and her area of scholarship focuses on community-based participatory research with refugee and immigrant communities (African, Montagnard, and Latino) as well as research in human trafficking.
