Sarah Ascienzo, PhD, LCSW, is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at North Carolina State University, where she engages in research, teaching, and service activities. Dr. Ascienzo has over 15 years of clinical experience working with children and families adversely affected by psychological trauma, including work as a trauma-focused clinician in community- and school-based settings and child forensic interviewer. Informed by her clinical work, Dr. Ascienzo’s research focuses on better understanding and mitigating the adverse health consequences of direct and indirect trauma exposure. This includes a focus on provider well-being and the development of strategies to mitigate secondary traumatic stress and other occupational hazards among providers. Dr. Ascienzo also teaches research and practice courses and greatly enjoys mentoring and teaching students and behavioral health providers.
