Dr. Sophia Sarantakos is an educator, writer, and organizer. They are a faculty member at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, and their teaching, research, writing, and organizing are focused on how the workers and resources of professionalized social-change work can be coordinated in service to an abolitionist horizon.
As part of their building work, Sophia co-created the Abolitionist Social Change Collective, a virtual space for all paid and unpaid social-change workers to convene and strengthen their ability to engage in an abolitionist praxis. Sophia also works closely with Scholars for Social Justice, a national network that aims to build bridges between scholars and organizers committed to leveraging the research, pedagogy, and resources of academic institutions in service of social justice movements. Prior to entering academia, Sophia was a social work practitioner for ten years.
