Zan Haggerty is a Doctor of Social Work and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). They earned a BA in Human Rights & Development from George Washington University and both their Master’s and Doctorate in Social work from the Rutgers School of Social Work. Zan’s professional experience began through community-based education and advocacy programs internationally and in the US. Their clinical career began in an intensive outpatient setting where they provided Dialectical Behavior Therapy to adolescents in acute distress with an emphasis on the LGBTQ+ community. Zan currently runs the innovative Next Step Program at CAPS where they lead a clinical team in providing intensive group and individual treatment for students who require more frequent, enhanced mental health services. Zan leads Gender and Sexual Diversity team at CAPS and sits on the national Collegiate Gender Affirming Care Coalition where they serve in a multidisciplinary team and advocate for improved trans care in college health settings across the US. They teach part time in both the School of Social Work and the Master’s in Genetic Counseling Program where they provide instruction for anti-oppressive clinical interventions. They developed and manage a website aimed at improving trans competencies for medical, mental health, and university professionals which is currently used by college health professionals across the country. Their research focuses on suicidality among transgender emerging adults and implementing gender affirming care as well as liberatory practices and anti-oppressive clinical applications.
