Dr. Zan Haggerty is a Doctor of Social work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked with queer and transgender communities for the last ten years. For the past five years Zan was the director of a program through Rutgers Counseling Center that provided intensive, free, on-campus treatment for students struggling with acute mental health concerns—predominately queer and trans students of the global majority. Dr. Zan is the co-director of the Collegiate Gender Affirming Care Coalition, a multidisciplinary team that advocates for improved trans care in college health settings across the US. As an assistant professor, Zan’s research focuses on interdisciplinary gender affirming care as well as anti-oppressive clinical practices, and the application of liberation-based frameworks to clinical supervision and program development. Zan recently began a tenure-track position at Stockton University’s Social Work department where they provide instruction for master’s level students to apply interdisciplinary clinical interventions. They also teach part-time in both the genetic counseling and social work programs at Rutgers University at the master’s and doctoral level respectively.
