Shani Saxon, LMSW, is a fourth-year PhD Candidate at Wayne State University. Her research focuses on the mental health disparities of Black women clinicians. Shani is also the founder and executive director of Kids Turning Corners, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to addressing the mental and physical well-being of people of color. Shani also owns and operates Turning Corners Consulting, a private practice and consulting group in East Lansing, Michigan, where she offers emotional and behavioral counseling to individuals, agencies, colleges/universities, and corporate groups.
A passionate activist of social justice, Shani is committed to helping under-served populations and communities achieve their potential through advocacy, equity, and inclusion. Shani’s ongoing research and work focus on the disparities in mental health accessibility due to racism and racial trauma has been pivotal in her work with social welfare policy and community programs that directly impact Black women and their families.
