Adjunct Professor of Social Work, Clinical Social Worker

Laurie Eldred is a licensed clinical Master of Social Work, Certified Advanced Addiction Drug Counselor with a Master’s in Public Administration who has been in the social work field since 2004. Laurie seeks to support other social workers through her private practice called, “Just A Social Worker PLLC” to build resilience in the social work field, address primary and secondary trauma and advocate for a more trauma informed profession. She does this through the use of EMDR, mindfulness and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Laurie has worked in a variety of social work positions including within the criminal justice system, child protective services, medical social work, and community mental health in both rural and urban settings as front line staff and a supervisor. Laurie currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State University and is a published author of the book, Micro Moments of Self Care for Social Workers.
Laurie also enjoys providing trainings for social workers in the area of self care, mental health needs for social workers, substance use, and secondary trauma. She provides groups using EMDR-IGTP to address traumatic community incidents. In addition, she provides supervision for interns, new clinical social workers and seasoned social workers.
In her free time, she likes to hike, read a good feminist book, rest and enjoy her family and loved ones. When she has extra time, she loves a good Lego project.
