Melissa Jenkins is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Waisman Center. Her current research focuses on life events and behaviors in adults with Down syndrome at risk of dementia. She has a PhD in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she explored promising practices for developing sex trafficking prevention for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). She is interested in understanding risk factors for violence and exploitation among individuals with IDD, and the role of adverse childhood experiences in physical and behavioral health outcomes among individuals with IDD.
