Dr. Lechuga-Peña is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work and has more than 20 years of experience in social work practice, working with low-income youth and families.
Grounded in Critical Race Theory and Latina/o/x Critical Race Theory, her research explores the barriers and facilitators impacting the educational outcomes of Latina/o/x youth. Her research focuses on developing culturally responsive interventions to reduce educational barriers, supporting parent-child relationships, and promoting health and well-being among Latina/o/x families. In addition, her scholarship focuses on antiracist, anti-oppressive, and anti-colonial approaches to dismantling systemic barriers and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging (DEIJB) in social work.
