Julie Taylor Hopkins is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at East Tennessee State University. She earned a PhD in Social Work from the University of Alabama, a MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a BA in Public Policy from Emory & Henry College. Prior to her role at ETSU, she directed field education for a BSW and MSW program, provided student support services at a community college, served in a research role for the Bureau of TennCare, and managed two statewide programs for the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts. Dr. Hopkins also serves as a faculty member with the Vanderbilt/ETSU Consortium LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) and as a team member with Family Voices Tennessee’s National Financing Services for children and youth with special healthcare needs (CYSHN) Learning Collaborative. Her current research is focused on social capital, social support, mental health, and economic support of caregivers of children with disabilities in rural Appalachia. She is also a proud parent of twins born at 25/2 weeks gestation and navigates the neurodivergent space as a parent.
