Valerie Walker, MSW, LCSW, ACSW, currently serves as the Director of Social Work at National Louis University, and as a consultant with Intentional Systems Mentoring. In her counseling, advocacy and administrative roles, she has worked with persons impacted by poverty, trauma, different abilities, lifespan development and identity issues, and holistic health challenges.
Valerie is a valuable resource for diverse community sectors, higher education, practitioners and organizational development. Valerie is recognized for her clinical, consultation and training skills throughout organizations and universities in the Midwest, and is a frequent facilitator and presenter for professional development regionally and nationally. Her field study and professional development embraces international human services, human rights, intimate violence, social justice immersion curricula and organizational culture. Professional presentations commonly address trauma informed care, identity and belonging, culturally grounded practice, inclusive organizational practices, servant leadership, critical dialogue facilitation and strategic planning.
Dedicated to her community, she offers her skills, experience and leadership as a diversity dialogues facilitator, ‘safe church’ consultant, a community-based special recreation soccer program director, Board Officer for a youth violence and substance use prevention organization, and Advisory member for Camp Kupugani multicultural summer camp. Her most important work is parenting her spirited children.
