Associate Dean for Student Success and Belonging, Clinical Professor

Dr. Travis J. Albritton is the Associate Dean for Student Success and Belonging and a Clinical Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. He serves as Faculty Liaison for the Dual Degree MSW/M.Div. program and chairs the School’s Cultural Humility Committee.
In 2023, Dr. Albritton was selected as a Provost's Distinguished Faculty Fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill, a leadership development program. He is also a co-investigator for the National Initiative for Trauma Education and Workforce Development, a $3 million project focused on supporting mental health clinicians serving traumatized youth and families. Additionally, he has contributed to research on preschool discipline disparities among Black families.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Albritton teaches in the generalist curriculum and has received numerous teaching and advising awards, including the School of Social Work’s Excellence in MSW Advising Award and Most Inspirational Faculty Member recognition. In 2023, he received the Hortense K. McClinton Outstanding Faculty Staff Award for his contributions to education and student success.
His research focuses on diversity in higher education, anti-racist pedagogy, decolonial social work practice, and critical race theory applications in social work education. He has presented nationally on these topics and served on the Council on Social Work Education’s Task Force for Anti-Racism.
Dr. Albritton holds a Ph.D. from UNC-Greensboro, an MSW from UNC-Chapel Hill, an M.Div. from Duke University Divinity School, and a B.A. from Elizabeth City State University. He was a 2022–2023 Academic Diversity Officers Fellow.
