Erica Brown-Meredith, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University. A dedicated scholar-practitioner, her research and teaching focus is on the intersection of race, gender, and equity in higher education and social work. Her areas of expertise include the impact of intersectional gender bias on women of Color in academic leadership; the multi-dimensional effects of racism on Black mental health and well-being; equitable academic advising for minoritized students; and inclusive instructional and curricular practices in social work education.
Dr. Brown-Meredith holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in Social Work and is a Certified School Social Worker. She is a recognized leader in academic advising and was named an Emerging Leader by the Global Community for Academic Advisors (NACADA). Her influence spans conference planning, global webinars, institutional consulting, and national and local presentations.
In recent years, she has been honored with multiple awards for her professional excellence and advocacy, including the Faculty Citizen Leadership Award, Advocate of the Year 2023, Professional Excellence and Devoted Service to Students Award, and the NACADA Outstanding Advising Program Award.
Deeply committed to community-based mental health advocacy, Dr. Brown-Meredith serves on the Board of Directors for NAMI Coastal Virginia and is the Committee Chair for NAMI Minority Mental Health FaithNet, where she works to advance culturally responsive and faith-integrated approaches to mental health.
She is the founder of Rooted Acent Wellness, LLC – a business dedicated to empowering individuals through counseling, wellness travel, consulting, and education.
