Professor & Associate Dean for Academic Programs
The University of Kansas, School of Social Welfare
I have been a faculty member in the School of Social Welfare at the University of Kansas since 2012.
My research focuses on the integration of health service models, in general, and those models that target adults who have serious mental illnesses (SMI) and who are involved in the criminal legal system, in particular. Integrated health and rehabilitation services are critical to addressing these individuals’ complex needs and to prevent their further penetration into this system. My research also involves developing approaches aimed at interprofessional education of masters-level social workers and increasing the number of social work professionals who are prepared to serve populations in integrated health and behavioral health care settings in rural and medically underserved areas. In this vein, I am the inaugural co-Director of the Center for the Advancement of Health Equity (CAHE) within the School of Social Welfare. CAHE serves as a valued resource for community and academic stakeholders interested in health equity research, training, and collaboration. The Center works to improve the performance of and access to health, behavioral health, and related care systems that improve the health and quality of life of diverse populations across the lifespan.
