Jason Ostrander, Ph.D., M.S.W., is an Associate Professor of Social Work and BSW Program Director at Anna Maria College. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and 50 presentations on social workers’ political participation, civic engagement, and child welfare. A frequent presenter at major conferences, he served as a research assistant for the Performance Improvement Center at the University of Connecticut, collaborating with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families to enhance and evaluate Community Partner Agencies' work. Dr. Ostrander has extensive experience in local, state, and federal political spheres, including serving as a congressional aide. His expertise spans research, policy development, and child welfare, shaped by personal experiences in a single-parent household affected by addiction and violence. He serves on various boards, including the Nancy A. Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work and the Social Work Democracy Project. In 2021, he and a colleague received a $2.5 million federal grant with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to improve kinship care interventions for native children.
