Odessa Foster is a first-generation college graduate from Flint, Michigan . She earned her bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2020 and her master's degree in Child and Family Studies from Louisiana State University in 2023. Odessa who is a stay at home mom of four, always had a passion for working with and improving the lives of families . During her time at Southeastern she served as a mentor to moms as a new mom and breastfeeding coach at The Parenting Center at the St. Tammany Hospital. Odessa’s interest in research was sparked in 2021 while pursuing her Master’s degree, as the talk surrounding colorism was becoming a big deal. As a master's student Odessa’s passion for this research continued to thrive. Her master's thesis examined how colorism influences dating preferences among undergrad Black college women. Currently, Odessa is pursuing her PhD at Louisiana State University in social work. Her research still focuses on phenomena that impact Black families and colorism. It is Odessa’s aspiration to continue to contribute to the knowledge of these phenomena and how they impact Black families.
