BSW/MSW students are likely to interact during practicum with clients with disabilities who are also more likely to experience suicidal ideation and attempts than people without disabilities. Supervisors are often responsible for providing guidance regarding suicide prevention, intervention and post-intervention strategies. This presentation discusses supervisors’ readiness to provide such education.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
1) Describe the readiness of practicum supervisors to educate BSW/MSW students in suicide prevention, intervention and post-intervention strategies.
2) Identify the strengths and gaps in education of supervisors in suicide prevention, intervention and post-intervention across BSW/MSW-program, clinical vs non-clinical, and geographical region.
3) Know about challenges students experience obtaining education in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention leading to a call to action for CSWE to require training of students across BSW/MSW programs.
