Pre-Conference: Field Education Institute: Supervision and Training in Anti-Racist, Trauma-Informed Practice: Lessons from Talk It Out

This presentation will highlight Talk It Out Counseling Clinic, a unique MSW practicum setting. It will highlight the clinic’s trauma-informed, anti-racist supervision model, student training curriculum, and experiential learning approach. Key strengths, challenges, and lessons learned from integrating reflexive practice, equity, and community-based mental health care will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the trauma-informed and anti-racist supervision model used at Talk It Out Counseling Clinic, including its key components and structure.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to explain how reflective practice, experiential learning, and professional development activities contribute to student training and clinical competency.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to apply strategies for fostering a supportive and equity-focused supervision environment that promotes student learning, self-awareness, and client-centered care.
