Teaching Quantitative Research to MSW Students: A Blended Approach

Many social work students dread learning quantitative research, yet social workers frequently utilize quantitative findings in practice. This paper presents a blended quantitative social work research course, delivered five times to 82 MSW students, with positive student feedback, with considerations for enhancing student competency to appraise evidence for practice.

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Learn about a blended quantitative social work research course that has fostered positive student experience across three MSW cohorts.
  2. Describe pedagogical approaches that can assist social work students in learning about topics that they have low motivation to engage with.
  3. Discuss current perspectives on teaching quantitative research to social work students.
