Pre-Conference: Field Education Institute: Understanding Student Motivations Around Employer-Based Practicum & Addressing Barriers To Degree Completion

Results from a national survey of students having completed Employer-Based Practicum (EBP) in accredited BSW/MSW programs throughout the country are presented and discussed. Results highlight student motivational factors, experiences, and concerns in completing EBPs, and program strategies in addressing learning quality and degree completion, with particular attention to underrepresented groups.

Attendees will gain insights into the motivational factors, stressors, and practical concerns faced by students completing an EBP, and be able to describe the benefits of EBPs for degree completion and competency development as an anti-oppressive and equity strategy for underrepresented and marginalized groups, including those with disabilities.
Attendees will be able to describe and evaluate the tools and processes utilized across social work programs for successful EBP verification and administration, meeting CSWE EPAS requirements.
Attendees will develop strategic steps in designing and implementing EBP options for expanding degree access and supporting career mobility social work students in their own social work programs.
