This workshop introduces UNICEF’s Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy (DIPAS) and its application to global social work. Using case studies, expert insights, and interactive discussions, participants will explore global disability rights frameworks, strategies for inclusive social work curricula, and advocating for children with disabilities in global development and humanitarian efforts.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Analyze global disability rights frameworks by examining key international disability rights frameworks (CRPD, CRC, UNDIS, DIPAS) and their applications in addressing childhood disability within UNICEF'S development programs and global social problems such as poverty, migration, conflict, and disasters.
Integrate UNICEF’s Disability-Inclusive Development Framework into social work curricula, to equip faculty and students with skills to advocate for disability rights, engage in policy development, and apply intersectional, decolonized approaches to disability justice in humanitarian and global social work practice.
Demonstrate cross-cultural competencies in disability advocacy to support children with disabilities in diverse global contexts, learning from case studies and best practices in inclusive development and humanitarian responses, ensuring that future social workers can address systemic barriers and promote equity in international and community-based disability initiatives.
