This presentation highlights findings from the authors’ collaborative autoethnographic analysis of their utilization of peer-based learning groups (PBLGs) to address institutional and curricular gaps concerning Palestinian perspectives following the events of October 7, 2023. PBLGs supported emotional and learning needs and have implications for upholding social justice under Trump’s administration.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Develop an understanding of peer-based learning groups (PBLGs) and how they can be utilized to directly support students’ emotional and learning needs, particularly around politically nuanced and/or contentious topics.
Identify specific ways that PBLGs encourage critical discourse of professional values and ethics that build critical consciousness and values-guided actions in the face of institutional and curricular gaps.
Examine strategies for implementing PBLGs at different social work organizations and institutions by engaging in an experiential activity with other students, professionals, and colleagues.
