Session: Preparing Social Workers to Work with AI

Developing AI-Ready Social Workers: Policies, Education, and Ethical Considerations

This mixed-methods study examined social work faculty and students' perspectives on AI integration in social work. While participants regularly use AI tools and support curriculum integration, concerns exist about ethical implications and critical thinking. Findings informed development of a pilot BSW course and recommendations for AI-related instruction.

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of using different types of AI tools for social work education and practice.
  2. Describe, compare, and contrast students’ and social work educators’ perceptions about using AI.
  3. Develop AI-focused content and policies for social work education.
