Embedding Self-Care in Social Work Education: Practical Strategies and Experiences

This workshop highlights innovative methods to integrate self-care into social work curricula, drawing from years of experience teaching a specialized course. Participants will explore adaptable strategies, engage in self-care explorations, and learn to embed wellness practices into social work curricula, supporting equity, inclusiveness and joy.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Upon completion, participants will identify and understand the core components of our self-care curriculum, such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, and stress management techniques, and discuss their evidence-based efficacy in enhancing social worker resilience.
  2. Upon completion, participants will possess strategies to adapt and integrate self-care practices into existing courses, such as human behavior, social welfare policy, and field education, ensuring they align with curricular goals and accreditation requirements.
  3. Upon completion, participants will hold plans for the administrative and logistical integration of self-care practices within their institutions’ existing frameworks, focusing on sustainable and inclusive implementation.
