Embracing Disability as Diversity: Infusing Disability Justice into Social Work Pedagogy and Practice

This interactive workshop will engage participants in a critical discussion surrounding integrating disability justice as a fundamental aspect of anti-oppressive social work pedagogy and practice. Participants will be connected with disability-centric resources and engage in critical reflexivity to identify strategies for cultivating more inclusive, anti-ableist pedagogy and practice.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Upon completion participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the disability justice framework and its value to anti-oppressive social work education and practice.
  2. Upon completion participants will be able to identify gaps across their current pedagogy and curricula that highlight opportunities for increased engagement with principles disability justice.
  3. Upon completion participants will be able to identify at least 3 resources shared by the facilitators that they can implement across their pedagogy and curricula to elevate disability justice in their classrooms.
