Practicing social workers' preparedness to work with clients with disabilities or chronic illnesses has not been adequately examined. 10,835 social worker respondents from 50 states completed our online survey measuring the extent to which they felt prepared by their MSW programs to adequately serve the needs of this substantial population.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Participants will be able to identify and critically analyze characteristics associated with practicing social workers' perceptions as to whether MSW programs prepared them to work with clients with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses.
Participants will be able to compare and contrast key recommendations from practicing social worker respondents as to how MSW programs could better prepare students for working with people with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses.
Participants will be able to apply pedagogical strategies for incorporating disability content into new or existing social work curricula and continuing education programs.
