Racial and ethnic disparities in ACP are well-documented; however, limited research examines gender’s moderating effects despite its significant role in ACP practices. This secondary analysis of a nationally representative sample from the Health and Retirement Study found that gender interacted with race and ethnicity in predicting the completion of ACP.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
identify how race, ethnicity, and gender intersect to create systemic barriers in completing health care decisions, such as ACP.
list social work strategies for incorporating an intersectional, culturally responsive approach into practice, education, and advocacy to enhance ACP engagement in diverse communities, focusing on gendered community dynamics.
discuss how disability status adds another layer of systemic barriers that intersect with race, ethnicity, and gender differences in ACP.
