Exploring Relationships between Military Identity and Moral Injury: An Application of Role Strain Theory

This study examined the relationship between three dimensions of military identity, and moral injury. Results indicate a negative relationship between idealism and moral injury and a positive relationship between individualism and moral injury. Identification of factors influencing moral injury could improve military social workers’ training and practice.

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:

  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the relationships between the dimensions of military identity and moral injury.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to explain how Role Strain Theory can be applied to an examination of the relationships between military identity and moral injury.
