Faculty Development: A Pilot Project to Foster Growth & Satisfaction in Teaching/Professional Faculty

With increasing numbers of Teaching and Professional Faculty (TPF) in academia, better methods of support for these faculty members needs to be established to foster career growth and satisfaction. An innovative pilot position for Faculty Development was created to evaluate, assess and implement faculty development activities focused on TPF.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Identify faculty development needs of non-tenure track faculty and how they are different from tenure track faculty.
  2. Describe the role of a Faculty Development Coordinator for non-tenure track faculty, especially for Clinical, Practice or Teaching Faculty and how this position compliments the work of Associate Deans who typically lead these charges.
  3. Evaluate the benefits of a Faculty Development Coordinator as a promising leadership position toward wraparound support for all types of faculty and staff professional development.
