Research examining depression among older adults identified four distinct types: severely depressed, somatic inactivity, negative emotion, and non-depressed. Analysis revealed gender differences in depression patterns, with health-promoting behaviors significant only for women. Findings suggest need for gender-specific mental health interventions, integrating health promotion and social support strategies into primary care.
