Social workers are increasingly asked to support trauma-informed (TI) efforts in schools, despite limited evidence of what TI teaching actually looks like. To fill this gap, this presentation reviews mixed-methods data of preschool teachers’ descriptions of TI teaching and classroom observations to identify specific practices that align with TI care.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Identify the need for trauma-informed (TI) supports within preschools to close gaps in educational outcomes for maltreated and trauma-exposed young children.
Discuss how observational tools can be used to inform and evaluate TI training tools within education settings.
Examine how the results of a mixed-method research study can inform curriculum development for social work students related to developing TI professional development in schools.
