Photovoice, a group-based participatory action research framework, has the potential to elevate the experiences of those living with disabilities and to serve as an enlightening social justice pedagogical method. This session will utilize a parallel process to describe the planning through evaluative stages of a photovoice classroom activity.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
1. Garner enhanced knowledge of the theoretical and empirical foundations of photovoice group methods as a pedagogical intervention to train students in supporting clients with disabilities.
2. Describe how sharing visuals and stories, as prompted within a facilitated group, nurtures connections and provides a safe environment to exchange feelings and attitudes, as well as foster hope and purpose.
3. Gather strategies for integrating a photovoice classroom activity to engage students in reflective and narrative techniques for opening dialogues of social justice from the micro to the macro.
