Maternal mental health concurrently influences children’s social-emotional development and its trajectory from early childhood to later school years (Xu et al., 2014). Children’s early social-emotional skills shape later outcomes. Effective intervention should target both parents and children simultaneously, emphasizing positive early mental health support to foster long-term social-emotional well-being.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
1. Comprehend the importance of maternal mental health on children's socio-emotional outcomes from life-time perspectives.
2. Understand mental health well-being through an intergenerational framework, incorporating an ecological perspective on the dynamic relationship between parents and children.
3. Implement research informed practice for the important roles of earlier intervention using ecological perspectives.
