Mental health issues intertwine with health concerns for those with chronic and rare conditions, impacting both patients and caregivers. Post-traumatic stress related to medical trauma and caregiving across the lifespan for both patients and carers is often subsumed under general stress, leading to a lack of targeted interventions.

recognize the impact of medical trauma for patients and caregivers
identify appropriate interventions for those impacted by medical trauma
educate other members of the interprofessional healthcare team about the impact and implications of medical trauma on participation in and adherence to medical treatment and healthcare system use.
