AI's Impact on Accessibility for Learners with Disabilities: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Directions

AI is transforming education by enhancing accessibility for learners with disabilities through tools like speech-to-text and assistive devices. However, challenges such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and unequal access persist. This session will explore AI’s potential and obstacles in improving accessibility within social work education.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Examine the current use of AI technologies in improving accessibility for social work faculty and students with disabilities.
  2. Understand the ethical, technical, and social challenges of implementing AI in educational settings, with a focus on barriers to equitable and inclusive opportunities for learners with disabilities.
  3. Identify best practices and strategies for integrating AI tools in social work education to ensure equitable access for learners with disabilities.
